MASS Will Soon Support the Chia File Format, Allowing for Parallel Mining

MASS was one of the very earliest exponents of the PoC consensus, and its mainnet has been running successfully and stably for 22 months. The example of MASS proves the feasibility of PoC as a blockchain protocol.

The MASS community has been busy for years promoting and developing the Proof of Capacity protocol. The community has built a consensus engine open to all using a PoC mechanism, which is additionally able to provide consensus services for multiple public chains at the same time. Since the MASS mainnet went live on September 1st, 2019, the MASS mining network has grown continuously and the mainnet has been running well. The success of MASS shows that PoC is feasible as a blockchain consensus protocol.

MASS provided some design inspiration for the Chia network, and Bram Cohen is a firm supporter and promoter of Proof of Capacity as a consensus mechanism.

The MASS community has always welcomed partners in developing the PoC consensus mechanism, and the community is renowned for being open and inclusive. We were delighted that Bram Cohen's team chose to use a Proof of Capacity approach when proposing and developing Chia, and this influential project has opened many people's eyes to the potential of PoC. We are also happy to see that that certain design aspects of MASS provided inspiration for parts of the Chia network. After 3 months of development, the Chia network now has 20,000 PB of storage capacity participating in mining, a feat which has attracted worldwide attention.

The MASS network will soon be compatible with the Chia file format, allowing for parallel mining.

We warmly welcome all miners from the Chia network to join in mining MASS and help to grow PoC-based consensus engines and blockchain infrastructure. The move to make the MASS network compatible with Chia for parallel mining is a big step forward, and one we're very excited about.

The MASS community has already completed research, development and testing of this update. The testnet will be released in the very near future.

The MASS community has already conducted all relevant development and testing regarding parallel mining, and the upgrade should go live soon. The testnet will be launched first, in order to check that everything is in working order and is stable. After the testing phase is complete, the MASS mainnet will be updated via a hard-fork. In order to better adapt to this new upgrade, the community will also make adjustments to the economic mechanisms of the MASS mainnet. These adjustments will ensure the total amount of MASS unchanged and gives miners sufficient incentives to keep supporting the network.

As one of the earliest adopters of the PoC protocol, the MASS community has always been focused on following the very latest developments in blockchain technology. We are committed to building MASS into a platform which can serve as the basic infrastructure for all blockchain consensus layers.
